Why it's important to know your body shape

Knowing where most of your body fat is located significantly influences your clothing choices. Clothes that flatter your figure make you feel completely comfortable. But it's not just your body shape that affects your clothing choices, but also your health.

No body shape is inherently unhealthier than another. However, fat distribution can influence the risk factors associated with being overweight or obese. Where excess fat is located can determine the risk for certain diseases.

People with an apple-shaped figure tend to carry more weight around their midsection. Excess fat in the midsection is generally the most concerning, as it can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes. People with an hourglass figure, characterized by a narrow waist, may also be at risk for visceral fat.

People with a pear-shaped figure tend to carry excess weight in their lower body. Due to the increased strain on their legs, they have a higher risk of varicose veins and osteoarthritis in the hips and knees.

People with an inverted triangle body shape tend to carry more weight in their upper body. They are more likely to suffer from back, shoulder, and neck pain. People with a rectangular body shape may have thinner bones, which increases the risk of fractures and osteoporosis.

All body shapes are normal and can be equally healthy. Regardless of your body shape, it is important to maintain a healthy weight, eat a balanced diet, and consume all essential macronutrients such as protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates, as well as lead an active lifestyle, to minimize health risks.
